Rep. Andy Harris, MD, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 1st district since 2011, addressed several policy issues and personal recognitions in a series of posts on July 21 and July 22, 2025.
On July 21, Harris disputed claims about his party's stance on rural healthcare funding. He stated: "MYTH: 'Republicans are targeting rural hospitals.' FACT: False. Republicans are protecting funding for rural hospitals while ensuring Medicaid dollars go to patients — not to administrative bloat or non-health-related programs."
Later that day, Harris acknowledged receiving an award from the Legislative Analysis organization. In his post he wrote: "Honored to be recognized as a Champion of Limited Government by the @leganalysis. Government should be limited, accountable, and serve the PEOPLE—not itself. I’ll keep fighting every day to keep it that way." The recognition highlights his advocacy for limited government and accountability.
On July 22, Harris commented on legislative efforts related to federal spending: " Passing the Rescissions Act was a huge win—$9 BILLION clawed back from wasteful spending. But this is only the start and we need more. We’ll keep fighting for taxpayers and backing OMB in any rescissions package they send."
Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st District since replacing Frank Kratovil in Congress in 2011. Before joining Congress, he served in both the Maryland House of Representatives and the Maryland Senate between 1999 and 2011. Born in New York City in 1957, Harris resides in Cambridge and holds a BS from Johns Hopkins University.
