Rep. Andy Harris posts updates on agriculture market deadline and anti-CBDC measures

Rep. Andy Harris, who represents Maryland’s 1st congressional district, posted a series of updates on July 16 and 17 regarding agricultural opportunities and legislative developments in Congress.

On July 16, Harris addressed constituents involved in agriculture, stating: "Heads up MD01 farmers, ranchers, and producers! TODAY is the last chance to apply as a vendor in the Great American Farmer’s Market. This Administration is putting American Farmers First!" (July 16, 2025).

Later that day, Harris commented on legislative negotiations involving the House Freedom Caucus and President Trump: "House Freedom Caucus Members will be voting in favor of the rule today after reaching an agreement with President Trump last night. Under this agreement, the Rules Committee will reconvene later today to add clear, strong anti–Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) provisions to" (July 16, 2025).

On July 17, he provided an update about ongoing discussions related to cryptocurrency policy: "House Freedom Caucus Members reached an agreement tonight to advance the President’s cryptocurrency agenda and, as part of this agreement, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) will include strong anti–Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) protections in this must-pass" (July 17, 2025).

Andy Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st District since replacing Frank Kratovil in Congress in 2011. Before his tenure in Congress began that year, he served both in the Maryland House of Representatives and subsequently on the Maryland Senate from 1999 until his election to federal office. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge at age 66, Harris graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Science degree.
