Washington, D.C. – Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) Chairman of the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Subcommittee on Appropriations released the following statement ahead of the gas tax increase set to go into effect in Maryland on Saturday.

Maryland’s gasoline tax will increase on Saturday from 42.7 cents to 47 cents per gallon. The tax on diesel will go from 43.5 cents to 47.5 cents per gallon.

Congressman Harris issued the following statement:

“Hard-working Marylanders are already paying record prices at the gas pump, thanks to the failed energy policies of the Biden administration. In addition to paying a federal gas tax, on Saturday Marylanders will see yet another state gas tax increase and will now pay 47 cents per gallon in state gas tax alone. Americans already pay too much in taxes. The pain at the pump is real for Maryland families and I urge Governor Wes Moore to call the legislature into a special session, before the General Assembly reconvenes in January 2024, to repeal the gas tax increase.”
