Washington, D.C. – On May 11, 2023, as Title 42 officially ends, Congressman Andy Harris M.D. (MD-01), released the following statement after voting “yes” on H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023.

Notably, the Secure the Border Act of 2023 will:

  • Force the Biden Administration to restart construction of the border wall.
  • Deploy technology to the southern and northern border.
  • Increase the number of Border Patrol agents and provide bonus pay.
  • Require transparency regarding illegal crossings from the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Strengthen current law to protect unaccompanied children from human trafficking.
  • End catch and release.
  • End abuse of executive immigration authority.
  • Strengthen and streamline the asylum process.
A recent NPR/Ipsos poll showed that more than half of Americans believe we are witnessing an invasion at our southern border and a permanent solution is needed.

Congressman Harris Statement: “Since Joe Biden took office, there has been over 5 million illegal crossings along our wide-open southern border. Securing our southern border is a top legislative priority for me and one of the issues the American people sent us back to Washington to solve. It is a reckless dereliction of duty for the Biden Administration and our “border czar,” Kamala Harris, to continually allow the cartels to smuggle both humans and fentanyl into our streets without ending this crisis. For the sake of the American people, I urge the Senate to take up the bill and pass it.”
