Washington, D.C. – Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) released the following statement after voting yes on the Protection of Women and Girls Sports Act which passed today in the House of Representatives by a 219-203 vote.

The protection of Women and Girls Sports Act will make it a violation for a recipient of Federal financial assistance who operates, sponsors, or facilitates athletic programs or activities to permit a person whose sex is male, to participate in an athletic program or activity that is designated for women or girls.

Congressman Harris Statement: “It is both evidence-based and obvious to anyone with common sense, that clear physiological differences exist between the performance of biological men and women in sports. Only woke politics, which is running rampant in the Biden Administration, would allow students to compete based on their stated gender identity rather than their biological sex. Women and girls’ sports must be protected from woke identity politics and I was proud to vote yes on the Protection of Women and Girls Act which will make it a violation for a recipient of federal funds to permit a person whose sex is male, to participate in an athletic program or activity that is designated for women or girls.”
