Rep. Andy Harris, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on July 31, 2025, addressing issues ranging from energy policy to Medicaid reform and tax changes for Maryland workers.
In a tweet posted at 11:35 a.m., Harris criticized President Joe Biden and Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg regarding wind turbine safety concerns. He wrote, "What we’ve known for years is finally coming to light: Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg put climate ideology ahead of public safety—ignoring warnings about the safety issues with wind turbines. Grateful the Trump administration is putting safety first."
Later that day, at 4:10 p.m., Harris addressed Medicaid policy and work requirements for able-bodied adults. He stated, "Republicans are fighting to preserve Medicaid for those who truly need it. Work requirements for able-bodied adults are common sense—and the majority of Americans agree."
At 7:15 p.m., Harris highlighted recent legislative efforts affecting Maryland workers’ pay. He wrote, "The One Big Beautiful Bill means no taxes on overtime pay for Maryland workers. This means extra hours worked truly pay off, allowing workers to keep the money they earn when they put in the long hours to provide for their families. This is a win for Maryland!"
Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st congressional district since replacing Frank Kratovil in 2011 and previously served in both chambers of the Maryland state legislature from 1999 through 2011. Born in New York City in 1957, he currently resides in Cambridge and holds a BS from Johns Hopkins University.
