Rep. Andy Harris, MD, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 1st district since 2011, recently expressed his views on energy policy and offshore wind production through a series of tweets.
On July 10, 2025, Rep. Harris stated that producing energy with offshore wind is not economically viable due to its high cost compared to other conventional sources. He remarked, “It makes no sense to produce energy with offshore wind because it’s the most expensive source of energy of all the conventional sources. It is actually terrible national policy.” He directed readers to an article in the Daily Signal for further information.
Later that day, he announced his upcoming appearance on the Larry O'Connor Show on WMALDC radio at 7:35 am, encouraging listeners to tune in “Coming up on the @LarryOConnor @WMALDC show. 7:35am Tune in!”
In another tweet posted on July 10th, Rep. Harris criticized U.S. Wind for being an Italian company despite its name suggesting otherwise. He asserted that their primary interest lies in capitalizing on subsidies associated with offshore wind rather than benefiting the United States. “U.S. Wind is not an American company...They don’t care about the United States...All they care about are the subsidies that flow to offshore wind and making profits from those subsidies.”
Andy Harris has been serving in Congress since replacing Frank Kratovil in 2011 and has a background in medicine and politics, having served previously in both chambers of Maryland's state legislature.
