Harford County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on March 19.

Harford County will host a community conversation in May to build relationships among residents with diverse perspectives. Presented by Harford County Public Library, in partnership with Harford County government, “The Longest Table” will include brunch and be held on Saturday, May 4 from 9 – 11 a.m. at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen. Adults and high school students are welcome to this unprecedented event in Harford County. Tickets are $17. Sponsorship and volunteer opportunities are also available. The Longest Table is part of Choose Civility Harford County, a countywide campaign launched in 2018 to promote respect, tolerance and kindness everywhere, including the internet.

“The Longest Table continues our efforts to spread kindness and understanding among people of all backgrounds and points of view,” Mary Hastler, CEO of Harford County Public Library said. “We are proud to bring community members together for this event to spark thoughtful and respectful conversations.”

Attendees will be seated among people they may not know to exchange stories and ideas about Harford County. A moderator at each table will help facilitate the discussion based on a few simple questions. The intent is to generate civil engagement among all people, including those with ethnic, political and religious differences. Together, they will be encouraged to have meaningful discussions about community issues.

“I look forward to this opportunity for Harford County to break bread together and connect with our common humanity for our common good,” County Executive Barry Glassman said. “I would like to thank Harford County Public Library, the Aberdeen IronBirds, and all of our Choose Civility partners who are helping us lead the way to a kinder world.”
