Hartford County Auditor issued the following announcement on Oct. 16.
Seeking new ways to help people in a mental health crisis, Harford County has set up a new 24-hour hotline. Other counties are also looking for ways to improve the services they provide.
The Harford Crisis Center isn't open yet, but the county has counselors handling calls coming in on the crisis line that began operating earlier this month.
"Professionals to help navigate folks that may be at their last thoughts of suicide, depression, addiction," said Harford County Executive Barry Glassman.
It's already helping those in crisis and their families.
"The call center would talk to them, find out what the situation. If deemed a crisis, it is dispatched to the Mobile Crisis Team and they go out in the community and do an assessment on the caller," said Vicky Rahenkamp, clinical program manager for the hotline.
