BEL AIR POLICE DEPARTMENT: Job Promotion

Promoted

Bel Air Police Department issued the following announcement on Aug. 22.

On August 20, 2018 two officers were recognized for their recent promotion. Pictured are (from left to right) Sergeant Henry Marchesani, Commissioner Philip Einhorn, Officer First Class Logan Walsh, Mayor Susan Burdette, Officer First Class Keith Smithson, and Commissioner Brenden Hopkins. Both officers were promoted from the rank of Officer to Officer First Class on August 8th.

Officer First Class Keith Smithson initially began his law enforcement career with the Baltimore City Police Department where he was employed from 2010 to 2012. He then joined the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office, where he was employed from 2012 to 2016. He joined the Bel Air Police Department in June of 2016. During his employment at the Bel Air Police Department he has exhibited excellent performance. During 2017, Officer First Class Smithson was the second highest performing officer for citations issued (over 500 citations and warnings alone) and more than 20 criminal arrests. During 2018, Officer First Class Smithson continues to excel in traffic and criminal enforcement and is currently the highest producer of citations/warnings issued and criminal arrests effected at the Bel Air Police Department. He is also an active member of the Crisis Negotiation Team and is an Accident Reconstructionist. Successfully graduating from these complex courses is no easy task.

Officer First Class Logan Walsh initially began his law enforcement career with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, where he was employed from 2014 to 2016. He joined the Bel Air Police Department in June of 2016. During his employment at the Bel Air Police Department he has exhibited excellent performance, especially with DUI enforcement, criminal arrests and criminal investigations. During 2017, Officer First Class Walsh alone affected 5 DUI arrests and 25 criminal arrests and had handled more investigations than any other officer. In 2017, he was recognized by the Harford County State’s Attorney’s Office for the number of DUI arrests for the year. During 2018, he continues to perform well, continuing in his DUI enforcment efforts, as well as making 10 criminal arrests
