Rep. Andy Harris, MD, a long-serving U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 1st District since 2011, recently shared his views on several pressing issues through social media posts. The tweets addressed topics ranging from national fiscal policies to international travel advisories and local energy concerns.

On June 20, Rep. Harris highlighted the burgeoning national debt in a tweet stating: "The national debt just hit $37 TRILLION. That’s more than $100,000 for every man, woman, and child in America." He criticized Washington's spending habits by saying it is "bankrupting our future" and called for immediate action to stabilize America's fiscal situation.

Later that day, he turned his attention to American citizens abroad with an advisory note for those in Israel. In a tweet posted at 19:55 UTC, he advised citizens seeking to leave the country to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). The post read: " Heads up for U.S. citizens in Israel: If you’re seeking to depart, enroll now in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)."

On June 21, Rep. Harris expressed agreement with concerns regarding energy policy and its impact on local communities and environments. He tweeted about "green tax credits" and offshore wind farms benefiting foreign companies over residents of Maryland’s First District. His statement was clear: “Green tax credits” and offshore wind farms benefit foreign companies - not the residents of Maryland’s First District." He emphasized opposition against foreign-owned companies controlling energy supply while potentially harming marine life.

As background context on Rep. Andy Harris' political career: he succeeded Frank Kratovil in Congress after serving from 1999-2011 on the Maryland Senate; Harris resides in Cambridge and holds a BS from Johns Hopkins University earned in 1977.
