Rep. Andy Harris, MD, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Maryland's 1st district, shared several insights on social media regarding ongoing issues and legislative discussions.

On May 7, 2025, Rep. Harris announced a live session at the House Appropriations Committee's Agriculture Appropriations hearing featuring Secretary Rollins. He invited followers to tune into the proceedings.

Later that day, Rep. Harris addressed concerns about Medicaid by stating that "Waste, fraud, and abuse in Medicaid robs money from the disabled, pregnant women, children, and those who really need it." He emphasized the necessity of eliminating these inefficiencies.

On May 8, 2025, he highlighted financial aspects of SNAP purchases with sugary beverages accounting for significant expenditure. According to him, "$12 billion a year in SNAP purchases" could be redirected to support American farmers instead. He further argued that nutritional products do not necessarily have to be imported as they can be sourced domestically.

Andy Harris has been serving in Congress since replacing Frank Kratovil in 2011. Prior to his current role, he served in both the Maryland House of Representatives and Senate from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and a graduate of Johns Hopkins University with a BS degree earned in 1977, he currently resides in Cambridge.
