Representative Andy Harris, MD, serving Maryland's 1st district since 2011, and a former member of the Maryland Senate, has made recent public statements on social media addressing key topics such as economic investment, healthcare spending, and collaborative efforts with educational institutions.

On April 30, 2025, Harris reflected on economic promises in a tweet, highlighting, “Trillions of dollars of investments are now being promised by companies who would have done business overseas. That’s exactly what the President said we needed to do to bring industries back.” This statement aligns with ongoing discussions surrounding initiatives to revitalize domestic industries.

Later that day, Harris turned his attention to healthcare economics, voicing concerns about Medicaid spending. He stated, “It should scare every senior that we are spending more on medical care for healthy, able-bodied adults in the Medicaid program than for our seniors.” Harris referenced further details to be found in his House Floor speech.

On May 1, 2025, Harris shared a recent meeting with educational leaders on social media, noting, "It was great to welcome the University of Maryland Eastern Shore President, Dr. Heidi M. Anderson, along with representatives of UMES to my Washington office." The discussions centered on significant research and extension activities being undertaken by UMES, showcasing Harris's engagement with educational advancements.

Harris, who was born in New York City and now resides in Cambridge, is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University. His commitment has been evident since his election replacing Frank Kratovil in 2011, with a political career including roles in Maryland's legislative bodies.
