Rep. Andy Harris, MD, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Maryland's 1st district, shared his views on government funding and potential shutdowns through a series of tweets in March 2025. The tweets highlight his support for measures to keep the government open and critique opposing party actions.

On March 8, 2025, Rep. Harris expressed his support for a continuing resolution necessary to advance former President Trump's agenda. He stated, "Congress must keep the government open so that DOGE can continue to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse in our government. This continuing resolution is necessary to advance President Trump's agenda." He emphasized his full support for this measure.

Two days later, on March 10, Rep. Harris criticized Democrats for their stance on layoffs amid discussions of a government shutdown. He remarked that while Democrats complain about "a few thousand layoffs," they are willing to "furlough a million people by voting for a shutdown." He affirmed that "The Republicans are going to be the grown ups in the room and keep the government funded through the end of the fiscal year."

Later that day, he questioned whether Democrats would choose to shut down the government instead of voting for a continuing resolution (CR) that includes funding for veterans, military pay increases, and additional food allocations in the Women, Infants, and Children’s program. Rep. Harris posed this question as part of an ongoing political debate: "Will the Democrats vote to shut the government down instead of voting for a CR that funds our Veterans?"
