City of Aberdeen Economic Development Commission met Sept. 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

Attendees: James Branson, Dan Lambros, Steve Horne, Terrell Boothe, Dave Lynch, Robert Andrews, Don Curry, Phyllis Grover, Randy Robertson

Meeting Expectations: Randy Robertson

Mr. Randy Robertson opened the meeting with engaging the EDC Body with expectations. Mr. Robertson brought up the number of e-mails and phone calls to the EDC members as reminders for the upcoming meeting. The outcome was the group agreed to reply to the e-mails and let Ms. Spector know their attendance plans for the meeting. A list of upcoming meetings until June, 2019 was handed out to the members.

Updates from the Department of Planning and Community Development: Phyllis Grover and Stefani Spector

Ms. Spector presented website updates on the City’s Economic Development webpage to the EDC members. A map with available parcels and buildings was updated to include the Enterprise Zone and Community Legacy Area.

Mrs. Grover presented the EDC members two Enterprise Zone applications from Lidl and Mr. Helton on the future Prost site.

The upcoming Aberdeen Downtown Business Meeting was mentioned to the EDC members, with a date of Thursday, October 18th at 8:30a.m. at the Aberdeen City Hall Council Chambers. The members were asked to encourage the Downtown business owners to attend and speak to property owners and ask them to attend as well.

Updates from Harford County Office of Community and Economic Development: Robert Andrews

Mr. Andrews spoke about the HEAT Center which will be constructed into the Advanced Manufacturing Center. The construction start date has been delayed due to design issues, but they are still in the design phase, and aiming for a construction start date of the beginning of 2019.

Business Appreciation Week is taking place this week, and there will be a wrap-up reception hosted by the Daily Record from 4:00p.m. until 6:00p.m. on Friday, September 21.

Susquehanna Workforce Network is hosting an upcoming job fair at Ripken Stadium on October 11th

There is also a Second chance Job Fair on October 4th that is open to employees with a criminal record.

Action Items

The EDC members were tasked with responding to reminder e-mails of the upcoming meetings in letting Ms. Spector know their attendance status

The EDC members were tasked with spreading the word to Downtown business owners and property owners of the upcoming Downtown Business Meeting

The EDC members were tasked with choosing topics for open discussion items to be prepared with for the October meeting.
