Cost of college went up for all students at Harford Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 2 percent for 2018-19 at Harford Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Maryland residents paid $5,887 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $115 more than the $5,772 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 36.9 percent more than residents this year, or $8,060. Their price tag grew 2 percent from $7,902 in 2017-18.

About 96 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Maryland residents. About 3 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 59 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 402 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.7 million and 141 students took out student loans totaling more than $712,978.

Including all undergraduates (5,865), 2,713 students used grants or scholarships totaling $7.7 million, and 623 students took out $3.3 million in federal student loans.
