Congressman Andy Harris has commended Wicomico County officials for their decision to participate in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Warrant Service Officer program. This program, which operates under the federal 287(g) framework, allows trained deputies at the county jail to enforce immigration detainers. The goal is to ensure that individuals identified as criminal illegal aliens are transferred directly to federal authorities rather than being released into local communities.
The Department of Homeland Security recently introduced new reimbursement opportunities for state and local law enforcement agencies assisting ICE in arresting and removing individuals considered dangerous criminals from American neighborhoods.
“I applaud Wicomico County for taking steps to help get illegal alien criminals off our streets, making our neighborhoods safer. Marylanders deserve safety and security in their homes and neighborhoods,” said Congressman Harris.
Andy Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress since 2011 after succeeding Frank Kratovil. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in both the Maryland House of Representatives and the Maryland Senate from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957, Harris currently resides in Cambridge and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University.
