Rep. Andy Harris, MD, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 1st district since 2011, shared his views on the funding of public broadcasting services through a series of tweets on May 8, 2025.

In one of his posts he declared his support for former President Trump’s stance on defunding NPR and PBS. The tweet was posted at 13:50:43 UTC and contained a link to an op-ed he wrote for RealClearPolicy.

Continuing his argument in another post at 13:57:58 UTC, Rep. Harris stated, “In a free-market society, news offerings of every political persuasion should be allowed to operate — but on their own dime, without the American taxpayer forced to subsidize propaganda that disparages conservatives and American values.” He directed readers to further details in his op-ed via a provided link.

Rep. Andy Harris has been actively serving in Congress since replacing Frank Kratovil in 2011. Prior to this role, he served in the Maryland House of Representatives and the Maryland Senate from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957, Harris graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977 and currently resides in Cambridge.
