Rep. Andy Harris, current member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 1st District, has shared a series of tweets reflecting on both national and international matters. Born in 1957 in New York City, and a graduate of Johns Hopkins University, Harris has been serving in Congress since 2011 after replacing Frank Kratovil.

On April 21, Rep. Harris expressed his condolences following the death of Pope Francis. In his post, Harris stated: “Nicole and I mourn the passing of His Holiness, Pope Francis and send prayers of strength to those in grief. May his legacy of ministry and charity continue to be an inspiration to us all. Rest in peace.”

Later the same day, he addressed the issue of offshore wind development within his district. Harris tweeted: “This is a WIN. Offshore wind development poses a significant risk to our environment, marine life, and national security operations, and I look forward to the swift end of all offshore wind construction projects in my district.” This reflects his opposition to offshore wind projects citing concerns over environmental and security impacts.

In a subsequent post, Harris commented on national security issues with criticism directed at the Biden Administration. He wrote: “The Biden Administration imported violent criminal gang members into our country. The Democrats are flighting to keep them here. President Trump is deporting them to keep Americans safe.” This comment emphasizes his dissatisfaction with current immigration policies and his support for former President Trump’s approach.

Rep. Harris has served in the Maryland House of Representatives and the Maryland Senate from 1999 to 2011 before his congressional term, where he has been an outspoken figure on a variety of issues.
