Rep. Andy Harris, MD, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 1st district since 2011, marked several issues in recent posts on his official Twitter account.

On August 29, 2025, Harris acknowledged the anniversary of the Marine Corps Reserve, stating, “Happy Birthday to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. From reinforcing active duty forces in times of war to serving communities in times of peace, their mission is one of honor, courage, and commitment.”

Later that day, he addressed public safety and business climate concerns in Washington D.C., writing on August 29: “America’s capital must be a place where families feel safe and businesses can thrive. I’m grateful for President Trump’s commitment to restoring law and order. Proud to co-sponsor this important legislation with @RepAndyBiggsAZ “

In another post on August 29, Harris commented on government spending: “This is what respecting taxpayers looks like. Thank you to @POTUS and @WHOMB for fulfilling the will of the American taxpayer and cutting waste, fraud, and abuse from our government.”

Harris has served in Congress since defeating Frank Kratovil in 2011 and previously held seats in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature (Maryland House of Representatives and Maryland Senate from 1999 to 2011). He was born in New York City in 1957 and resides in Cambridge. Harris graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977.
