Rep. Andy Harris, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently highlighted local student initiatives, election policy views, and efforts to support the state’s oystermen through a series of posts on his official Twitter account.
On February 4, 2026, Harris commended Cecil County high school students for their involvement in substance use prevention programs: “I am extremely proud of these high school students from Cecil County for participating in CADCA, a youth-led substance use prevention and awareness program. These students are helping prevent drug use, supporting their peers, and stepping up as leaders in their schools and https://t.co/BWNBprhq4x”.
Addressing federal election policies on February 6, 2026, Harris stated: “Only American citizens should be voting in federal elections. Voter ID should be required of every person voting in a federal election, because we can only affect federal elections, and the last thing we have to do is stop counting illegal aliens in the census. These are issues https://t.co/PC4Z5f2DgI”.
Later that same day, he drew attention to his advocacy for Maryland’s seafood industry: “Maryland’s U.S. Congressman Andy Harris has sent a letter to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to request a declaration of an economic fishery disaster in order to secure assistance for Maryland oystermen.”
Harris has served as the representative for Maryland’s 1st District since 2011 after succeeding Frank Kratovil. He previously held positions in both chambers of the Maryland legislature from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge, Harris holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University.
