Rep. Andy Harris, currently serving Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform over the weekend to highlight his stance on recent government funding votes and to announce a television appearance.
On October 4, Harris posted a tweet with no accompanying text other than a link: https://t.co/eCWF4vGU0K.
The following morning, he alerted followers to an upcoming media appearance, stating on October 5: ” Coming up on @fox5dc around 8:20AM. Tune in!”
Later that day, Harris addressed the recent vote on government funding, writing: “Shocking that I was the ONLY member of the Maryland delegation who voted to keep the government open—despite thousands of federal workers in Maryland facing furloughs. Maryland Democrats say they care about federal workers, but their votes tell a different story.” The post included criticism of his colleagues from Maryland regarding their voting records on issues affecting federal employees.
Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st district since 2011 after replacing Frank Kratovil and previously served in both chambers of the Maryland legislature. Born in New York City in 1957 and now residing in Cambridge, Harris holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University.
