Rep. Andy Harris, MD, currently serving as the U.S. Congressman for Maryland’s 1st district, posted a series of updates on his social media accounts regarding recent legislative actions and reflections on Palm Sunday.
On March 28, 2026, Harris wrote about his vote to support funding for key components of the Department of Homeland Security: “Last night, I voted to fully fund the bipartisan DHS bill—Border Patrol, ICE, TSA, FEMA Coast Guard, anti-human trafficking enforcement, and cybersecurity. The following day, March 29, Harris marked Palm Sunday with a religious message: “This Palm Sunday, we reflect on Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem. Hosanna in the highest! https://t.co/ZVwCNWGTr4”.
Later that same day, he commented on federal assistance at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and criticized recent votes by House Democrats: “Thank goodness the President is sending federal help to BWI, and will fund TSA agents tomorrow, since the Democrats in the House have voted against funding TSA many times in the past six weeks, including twice this past week. The Schumer shutdown nightmare will be over at our”.
Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st District in Congress since 2011 after succeeding Frank Kratovil. He previously served in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and now residing in Cambridge at age 66, Harris graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977.
