Rep. Andy Harris, MD, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 1st district, used his social media account to criticize Senate Democrats and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer over the ongoing government shutdown and their response to its effects on American families.

On October 8, 2025, Harris wrote, “Maryland families are suffering and Senate Democrats don’t care. Schumer’s more focused on appeasing far-left activists protesting President Trump than reopening the government.”

Later that evening, Harris announced an upcoming media appearance, posting, “Coming up on @StacyOnTheRight around 9:20PM. Tune in!” on October 9, 2025.

Continuing his criticism the following day, Harris quoted Schumer and commented, “Chuck Schumer’s response while American’s suffer: ‘Every day gets better for us.’ What a revealing and disgusting statement.”

Andy Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st District in the U.S. Congress since 2011, after previously serving in the Maryland Senate from 1999 to 2011. He was born in New York City in 1957 and currently resides in Cambridge. Harris graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977.
