Rep. Andy Harris, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, has reiterated his opposition to offshore wind projects along Maryland’s coast in a series of posts on social media.

On August 26, 2025, Harris posted: “Rushed offshore wind projects are a threat to Maryland’s coast, our watermen, and your electric bill. President Trump is standing up for the Eastern Shore—putting a stop to these reckless projects and putting Maryland families first.”

The following day, August 27, Harris shared another post with a link: “https://t.co/5CemVGrZwi”. In a related message on the same date, he wrote: “For years, I’ve stood with my local constituents, watermen, and elected officials in sounding the alarm about the serious environmental, economic, and national security risks posed by these massive, expensive and wasteful offshore wind projects that will drive up energy costs and”

Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st District since 2011 after succeeding Frank Kratovil. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of both the Maryland House of Representatives and the Maryland Senate from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge at age 66, Harris holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University (see background information on his congressional service and education).
