Rep. Andy Harris, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 1st district, publicly criticized Governor Moore and Maryland Democrats in a series of social media posts on October 9, 2025, accusing them of failing to support workers and prolonging a government shutdown.
In one post, Harris stated, “Rep. Andy Harris criticized Gov. Moore and Maryland Democrats, saying, ‘Their actions tell a different story’ about supporting workers. He noted he was the only Maryland lawmaker to vote to keep the government open while Democrats repeatedly voted against the GOP funding bill.” (October 9, 2025).
Addressing the impact on residents, Harris also posted on the same day: “Amid reports of struggling Maryland families, Rep. Andy Harris said Democrats refused to vote on a ‘clean, no-strings-attached bill’ to reopen the government, accusing them of prolonging the shutdown for political reasons.” (October 9, 2025).
Harris’s remarks come as debates continue over congressional funding bills and their implications for federal operations and local communities. According to his official biography, Harris has served in Congress since 2011 after replacing Frank Kratovil and previously held seats in both the Maryland House of Representatives and Senate from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957, Harris resides in Cambridge and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University.
