Rep. Andy Harris, MD, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 1st district since 2011, used his social media platform on September 22, 2025, to comment on ongoing government funding negotiations and criticize Democratic leadership.
In a post published at 12:04 UTC, Harris stated: “Republicans passed a clean bill to keep the government open. Meanwhile, Chuck Schumer is threatening a shutdown — demanding trillions in unrelated policy demands that would enrich insurance companies, increase your healthcare costs, and cost taxpayers. #SchumerShutdown”.
Later that day at 14:46 UTC, he announced an upcoming media appearance: ” Coming up on @NEWSMAX around 11:25. Tune in!”.
At 15:23 UTC on the same day, Harris responded to criticism regarding healthcare funding and Democratic actions in Congress by posting: “Wrong. If Hakeem Jeffries and the Democrats truly cared about hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics, they wouldn’t have voted against the $50B fund Republicans passed to help them. The truth is — Democrats are threatening a shutdown over trillions in unrelated policy demands”.
Andy Harris has served in Congress since replacing Frank Kratovil in 2011 and previously held positions in both the Maryland House of Representatives and Maryland Senate from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge, Harris graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a BS degree in 1977.
