Rep. Andy Harris, MD, currently serving as the U.S. Congressman for Maryland’s 1st district, posted a series of statements on his social media account on October 1, 2025, criticizing Democratic lawmakers and the Biden administration.
In a post made at 4:11 a.m., Harris wrote: “The Democrats chose to shut the government down over free health care for illegal aliens.”
Later that morning at 12:25 p.m., he commented on actions by the Department of Justice under President Biden, stating: “Biden’s DOJ crossed every line weaponizing the government against @RepScottPerry, a true patriot. Abuse of power like this can never be ignored. It must be exposed and addressed.”
By the evening, Harris reiterated his criticism regarding recent congressional votes on funding measures: “For years, Democrats voted for continuing resolutions — yet now they’ve turned around and voted against a nonpartisan CR and to shut the government down. It’s pure politics with the Democrats at the expense of the American People. @MorningsMaria”
Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st District in Congress since replacing Frank Kratovil in 2011. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and residing in Cambridge, Harris earned his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1977.
