Rep. Andy Harris, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently used his social media platform to comment on ongoing government funding negotiations and criticize Democratic lawmakers’ spending proposals.
On September 29, 2025, Harris posted a tweet that linked to an external site but did not include a direct statement: https://t.co/cjlRkMdlOF.
The following day, Harris made his position clear regarding budget talks in Congress. On September 30, 2025, he tweeted: “They’re playing politics with it. They [the Democrats] want to increase spending by one-and-a-half trillion dollars or shut down the government because they want to inflict pain on the American people.”
Later that morning, Harris announced a media appearance related to these issues. On September 30, 2025, he wrote: “I’ll be joining the @LarryOConnor show around 8:30 this morning to talk about the Democrats’ reckless shutdown demands. Tune in!”
Andy Harris has served as a member of Congress for Maryland’s 1st District since 2011 after defeating Frank Kratovil and previously held positions in both the Maryland House of Representatives and Senate from 1999 through 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge, Harris earned his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1977.
