Rep. Andy Harris, MD, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 1st district since 2011, posted a series of tweets addressing the passing of Delegate Charles Otto and expressing continued support for the House Freedom Caucus and former President Trump.
On October 17, 2025, Harris shared condolences regarding the death of Delegate Charles Otto: “Nicole and I were saddened to learn of the passing of Delegate Charles Otto. He was a devoted advocate for the Eastern Shore, always focused on the needs of our rural communities and the people who call this region home. I had the privilege of working with him over the years and” (posted October 17, 2025).
Later that day, Harris commented on his support for President Trump’s agenda within Congress: “As I have said many times, pound for pound, or on a per capita basis, House Freedom Caucus members are the strongest caucus supporters of President Trump’s agenda … this proves that yet again.” (posted October 17, 2025).

Andy Harris has served in Congress since defeating Frank Kratovil in 2011. Before his tenure in Washington D.C., he was active in state politics as a member of both the Maryland House of Representatives and Maryland Senate from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge, Harris holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University.
