Rep. Andy Harris, MD, currently serving as the U.S. Congressman for Maryland’s 1st district, used his social media platform to address the assassination of Charlie Kirk and subsequent Congressional actions regarding the incident.
On September 19, 2025, Harris posted: “Today I voted to honor Charlie Kirk’s life and legacy.
Yet 96 Democrats voted NO or PRESENT on condemning his assassination and the political violence behind it.
Shameful.”
Two days later, on September 21, he reflected on Kirk’s impact with another post: “Today, our nation remembers Charlie Kirk.
Charlie challenged a generation to think for themselves, to speak boldly, and to never back down in the face of resistance.
He believed in the promise of this country, in the power of faith, and in the strength of freedom-loving”.
Later that same day, Harris offered condolences to Kirk’s family: “Faith over fear and light over darkness.
God bless Erika Kirk, their children, and family.”
Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st district since replacing Frank Kratovil in 2011. Before joining Congress, he served in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature from 1999 through 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge at age 66, Harris holds a BS from Johns Hopkins University (source: biographical records).
