Rep. Andy Harris, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, publicly supported President Trump’s decision to seize and arrest Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro in a series of posts on social media in early January 2026.
The following day, Harris posted: “The bottom line is it’s going to send a signal to anyone around the world who sends poison to the United States that kills tens of thousands of our youth that it’s not going to be tolerated.” (January 4).
Later on January 4, he added: “No question about it. He (Maduro) was a dangerous narcoterrorist who was poisoning tens of thousands of our youth with the drugs he was sending to the United States. It’s about time he was brought to justice, and I’m glad the President did it.”
Andy Harris has served as Maryland’s 1st District representative since 2011 after replacing Frank Kratovil and previously served in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature. Born in New York City in 1957, Harris currently resides in Cambridge and holds a BS from Johns Hopkins University.
