Rep. Andy Harris, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, announced new federal support for the state’s seafood industry through a series of social media posts on August 6, 2025.
In a statement shared on his official account, Harris told WBOC: “The $6 million available through the program is a major investment in Maryland’s watermen and seafood producers. It’s also another way the Trump administration is supporting sustainable seafood and American jobs.” (August 6, 2025).
Later that evening, Harris posted another update about ongoing efforts to address invasive species affecting local fisheries. He wrote: “Congressman Harris and U.S. Agriculture Secretary, Brooke Rollins toured Tilghman Island Seafood Wednesday as they announced plans to tackle invasive blue catfish in the Chesapeake.” (August 6, 2025).
