Rep. Andy Harris, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 1st district since 2011, recently posted several statements on his official Twitter account addressing national security concerns and constitutional principles.
On September 16, 2025, Harris referenced the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, stating, “Charlie Kirk’s assassination is a sobering reminder of the dangers posed by radical left-wing extremism. Congress has a duty to act. That’s why I am supporting @chiproytx in calling for a select committee to investigate and confront the forces attacking our nation.”
The following day, September 17, Harris commemorated Constitution Day with the post: “Happy Constitution Day! On this day in 1787, the U.S. Constitution was signed. This document guarantees that our rights and freedoms cannot be infringed upon by the government.”
On September 18, he addressed recent comments from former President Donald Trump regarding ANTIFA: “President Trump is right. ANTIFA is a dangerous, radical group that thrives on chaos and violence. Rightfully declaring them a terrorist organization will help protect our communities. It’s time to investigate those who fund them and stop the lawlessness once and for all.”
Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st District in Congress since defeating Frank Kratovil in 2011 and previously served in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature between 1999 and 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge, Harris holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University (1977).
