Rep. Andy Harris, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress and has served since 2011, posted a series of statements on his social media account over several days in late March 2026.
On March 25, Harris acknowledged Maryland Day by posting: “Happy Maryland Day to the great state of Maryland! https://t.co/lUtsox624N”
A day later, on March 26, Harris addressed concerns about crime in the state, referencing a high-profile case and criticizing state leadership: “There isn’t a day that goes by where I do not think about the horrific murder of Rachel Morin. Her life was tragically cut short because of the soft on crime and pro-illegal immigrant policies Governor Wes Moore supports. Rachel’s mother, Patty, is correct; Marylanders want safe”
On March 27, Harris commented on congressional votes related to TSA agent funding: “For the fourth time today, all the Democrats in the Maryland House delegation voted against funding our TSA agents, and yesterday our two senators voted against funding TSA agents. I want to thank President Trump for finally bringing the TSA crisis to an end. https://t.co/x9sD7wqANU”
Harris began his political career in state government before joining Congress after defeating Frank Kratovil in 2011. He previously served in both the Maryland House of Representatives and Senate from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957, Harris currently resides in Cambridge and holds a BS from Johns Hopkins University.
