Rep. Andy Harris, currently serving as the U.S. Congressman for Maryland’s 1st district, posted a series of updates on social media addressing concerns about local legislation, federal funding policies, and public safety alerts.
On March 13, 2026, Harris voiced his support for Maryland seafood processors and small businesses in opposition to the MAWS Act. He stated, “Maryland seafood processors are raising serious concerns about the MAWS Act. I stand with our watermen and small businesses opposing it.”
The following day, on March 14, 2026, Harris commented on federal funding allocations related to sanctuary jurisdictions in Maryland. He wrote, “This is why we have to pull federal Department of Justice funding from any Maryland sanctuary jurisdiction — but continue giving that funding to jurisdictions that continue to cooperate with deporting criminal illegal aliens. If defund-the-police radicals in Annapolis pull”
On March 16, 2026, Harris addressed public safety by alerting residents to upcoming severe weather conditions across Maryland. He advised constituents to sign up for local weather and emergency alerts: “Severe weather is expected across Maryland tomorrow. Be prepared and sign up for local weather and emergency alerts for your county.”
Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st District in Congress since 2011 after replacing Frank Kratovil. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in both the Maryland House of Representatives and the Maryland Senate from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and now residing in Cambridge, Harris holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University.
