Rep. Andy Harris, currently serving Maryland’s 1st congressional district, has recently posted a series of tweets addressing state policy and national political debates.

On February 17, 2026, Harris criticized the Moore administration in Maryland for its approach to juvenile justice. He wrote, “So Governor Moore’s Acting Secretary of Juvenile Services supports not charging 16- and 17-year-old thugs who use guns, including machine guns, while committing a crime as adults. Wow. The Moore administration is once again coddling serious criminals who threaten the safety of” (February 17, 2026).

Later that day, Harris commented on legislative procedures regarding federal election laws. He stated, “You’re supposed to stand on the floor and debate the bill. You don’t just take a vote and walk off the floor. The bottom line is we want to hear the Democrats’ arguments for why you shouldn’t have to prove citizenship or show voter ID for a federal election.” (February 17, 2026).

On February 18, Harris shifted focus to religious observance with a message marking Ash Wednesday: “Praying for a blessed Ash Wednesday and a season of reflection and grace as Lent begins.” (February 18, 2026).

Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st district in Congress since replacing Frank Kratovil in 2011. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in both chambers of the Maryland legislature from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and now residing in Cambridge, Harris holds a BS from Johns Hopkins University.
