Rep. Andy Harris, who has represented Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress since 2011, posted a series of messages on his official Twitter account between May 18 and May 19, 2026. The posts addressed topics ranging from appreciation for emergency medical services personnel to concerns about NCAA recruiting practices and election integrity in Maryland.

On May 18, during National EMS Week, Harris expressed gratitude to emergency responders: “During National EMS Week, I want to thank the EMTs, paramedics, and EMS personnel serving across Maryland. As a physician, I understand the critical role EMS professionals play every day in providing lifesaving care and responding in emergencies. Thank you for the sacrifices” (May 18, 2026).

Later that day, Harris commented on collegiate athletics recruitment trends: “More than HALF of first-year Division I tennis players are now foreign recruits. This is no longer isolated to one or two sports. It is happening across NCAA recruiting. Congress must fight for language in the SCORE Act that protects roster spots and scholarship opportunities” (May 18, 2026).

On May 19, Harris turned his attention to election issues within Maryland: “What happened with Maryland’s mail-in ballots is unacceptable. Maryland voters deserve accurate ballots, secure elections, and clear answers about how an error like this occurred.” (May 19, 2026).

Harris has served as a member of Congress representing Maryland’s Eastern Shore since replacing Frank Kratovil in 2011 and previously held positions in both the Maryland House of Representatives and Senate from 1999 through his congressional election. Born in New York City in 1957 and currently residing in Cambridge at age sixty-six, Harris earned his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University.
