Rep. Andy Harris, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed a series of issues affecting the Eastern Shore community through posts on his social media account.
On May 19, 2026, Harris highlighted ongoing challenges for local watermen, stating: “Eastern Shore watermen have spent months dealing with the fallout from this season. I’ll keep pushing for the hardworking men and women who make their living on the Chesapeake.”
The following day, he acknowledged improvements to regional infrastructure: “Great to see continued investment in Salisbury Regional Airport and the Eastern Shore’s infrastructure. Thank you to the FAA and local leaders for getting this done.” (May 20, 2026).
On May 21, 2026, Harris participated in a discussion at the U.S. Capitol regarding transportation safety standards: “Today, I joined @MembersNDASA and transportation safety experts at the U.S. Capitol to discuss the importance of maintaining strong Department of Transportation drug testing standards for safety-sensitive transportation workers. Whether it’s pilots, truck drivers, railroad”.
Harris has served as Maryland’s 1st District representative since defeating Frank Kratovil in 2011 and previously held positions in both chambers of Maryland’s legislature between 1999 and 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and now residing in Cambridge at age 66, Harris graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a BS degree in 1977.
