Rep. Andy Harris, currently serving in the U.S. Congress and representing Maryland’s 1st district since 2011, has used his social media platform to address issues affecting Maryland residents, with recent posts focusing on federal funding decisions, public safety in Baltimore, and support for local agriculture.
On March 23, 2026, Harris criticized Maryland Democrats for their stance on Department of Homeland Security funding. He stated: “Every single Maryland Democrat voted AGAINST funding the Department of Homeland Security. Now BWI travelers are stuck in hours-long security lines. This is what happens when Democrats put illegal aliens first.”
The following day, Harris commented on public safety and federal aid in Baltimore: “This is too bad for law-abiding Baltimoreans. It’s why residents are fleeing the City. All federal aid to Baltimore—and it’s hundreds of millions of dollars—should end if they don’t want to help enforce federal law.” This post was made on March 24, 2026.
Also on March 24, Harris marked National Agriculture Day by expressing appreciation for farmers in his district: “Happy National Agriculture Day! Farmers across Maryland’s First District keep Maryland fed and our economy strong. Thank you.”
Harris has been a member of Congress since replacing Frank Kratovil in 2011 and previously served in both the Maryland House of Representatives and the Maryland Senate from 1999 to 2011. Born in New York City in 1957, he resides in Cambridge and holds a BS degree from Johns Hopkins University.
