Rep. Andy Harris, who represents Maryland’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently used his social media platform to address issues of public safety and national politics in a series of posts.
On September 6, 2025, Harris commended local officials for efforts related to crime and immigration enforcement. He wrote, “I applaud Wicomico County for taking steps to help get illegal alien criminals off our streets, making our neighborhoods safer. Marylanders deserve safety and security in their homes and neighborhoods.”
Two days later, on September 8, Harris discussed his alignment with the president’s agenda during an appearance on Fox News. In his post he stated, “Rep. Andy Harris to @FoxNews: ‘They are not going against the grain any longer, we are driving the grain. We work with the president to advance his agenda in the most conservative way possible, and we’ve been successful.'”
On September 9, Harris addressed federal law enforcement policy under former President Trump while criticizing Democratic leadership on urban crime rates: “Thanks to President Trump’s leadership, law and order is being restored in Washington, DC. Democrats would rather ignore soaring crime and let cities suffer instead of taking action to protect Americans.”
Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st District since replacing Frank Kratovil in 2011 and previously served in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature from 1999 through 2011. Born in New York City in 1957 and now residing in Cambridge at age 66, Harris graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977.
