Congressman Andy Harris has announced that $4,785,000 in federal funding has been secured for the Slaughter Creek Dredging Project in Maryland. The funds were obtained through the Energy & Water Development appropriations bill for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Slaughter Creek has experienced ongoing navigation issues due to reduced channel depth, which has limited access for both commercial and recreational vessels. The new funding will enable dredging efforts to proceed after delays, with the goal of improving navigation in the area.
“When waterways like Slaughter Creek become difficult to navigate, it directly affects the people and businesses that rely on them. This funding allows long-delayed dredging to move forward and restore reliable access for commercial and recreational vessels,” said Congressman Harris.
Andy Harris represents Maryland’s 1st district in Congress, a position he has held since 2011 after succeeding Frank Kratovil. He previously served in both the Maryland House of Representatives and Senate from 1999 to 2011. Harris was born in New York City in 1957 and currently resides in Cambridge. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977.
