Harris and USDA secretary to announce new seafood industry support for Chesapeake Bay

Congressman Andy Harris and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins are scheduled to visit Tilghman Island Seafood in Maryland on Wednesday, August 6, to announce new initiatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) aimed at supporting innovation in the seafood processing industry and addressing invasive species in the Chesapeake Bay.

According to organizers, Secretary Rollins and Representative Harris will tour Tilghman Island Seafoods’ processing facility before making an announcement about efforts targeting invasive species affecting the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem. The visit will include a press conference following podium remarks.

The event is set to begin with a facility tour at 11:45 a.m., followed by official remarks at noon and a press conference at 12:20 p.m. Media representatives interested in attending have been asked to RSVP by Tuesday evening.

Andy Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st district in Congress since 2011 after succeeding Frank Kratovil. He previously served in both the Maryland House of Representatives and the Maryland Senate between 1999 and 2011. Born in New York City in 1957, Harris resides in Cambridge, Maryland, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University.

“Secretary Rollins and Rep. Harris will tour Tilghman Island Seafoods’ processing facility and make a major announcement regarding invasive species in the Chesapeake Bay. Following the tour, the delegation will hold a press conference,” according to information released by their offices.
