Harford County will host a free workshop for small business owners titled “Hiring Your First Employee: From Preparation to Onboarding” on May 14 at the CONVERGE Center in Aberdeen, according to an April 29 announcement.

The event aims to provide practical guidance for local entrepreneurs who are considering hiring their first employee. This topic is relevant as many small businesses face challenges when expanding their workforce and navigating legal requirements.

County Executive Bob Cassilly said, “This free workshop is designed to help small business owners make the big leap of hiring their first employee to help grow their business. Participants will gain the practical tools they need to navigate the hiring process, meet legal requirements, and set their new team member up for success.”

The workshop will cover several topics including determining readiness to hire, defining the employee’s role, understanding legal requirements such as payroll and classification, and onboarding basics with clear expectations. The session is presented in partnership with the Harford County Chamber of Commerce’s Harford Young Professionals & Entrepreneurs Group as part of the LevelUp Harford Business Workshop Series from the Department of Economic Development.

Registration is required for this free event at bit.ly/LevelUpFirstEmployee. For those unable to attend or interested in previous sessions, recorded seminars are available online at www.harfordcountymd.gov/3960/LevelUp-Harford-Business-Workshop-Series. The LevelUp series is filmed and produced by HarfordTV.
