Harford County announced on May 6 that registration is now open for its annual Bike to Work Week events, scheduled for May 12 and May 15. The county will hold two “pit stop” gatherings in Edgewood and Bel Air as part of National Clean Commute Month.

The initiative aims to promote biking as a practical, healthy, and low-cost way to commute. The pit stops will feature light refreshments, music, a bike parade, prizes, and other activities. Participation is free but requires registration at each event or online.

County Executive Bob Cassilly said, “Whether you’re an avid cyclist or just enjoy riding, bicycling can be a practical and enjoyable way to get around. I encourage everyone who can to take part in Bike to Work Week, stop by the pit stops, connect with fellow riders, and experience firsthand the benefits of biking in Harford County.”

The first event is “Bike FROM Work” on Tuesday, May 12 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Edgewood Branch of Harford County Public Library. The second event is “Bike TO Work” on Friday, May 15 from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at the Harford County Government Administration Building in Bel Air.

Organized by the Baltimore Metropolitan Council along with member jurisdictions like Harford County government and Harford Transit LINK—and sponsored locally by Harford County Public Library—the events are intended to encourage more residents to try cycling as an environmentally friendly commuting option.

For additional information about Bike to Work Day or National Clean Commute Month—or if interested in becoming a sponsor—residents are encouraged to contact Ryan Kivinski at rdkivinski@harfordcountymd.gov or call 410-612-1620 ext. 7474.
