Harford County is inviting residents to take part in National Historic Preservation Month throughout May, according to a May 12 announcement. The initiative is part of the county’s recognition of America’s 250th birthday and aims to encourage citizens to engage with local historic sites.
The campaign highlights the importance of connecting with Harford’s past as a way to understand the present and guide future decisions. County Executive Bob Cassilly said, “Honoring our past helps to inform who we are today and helps guide our path forward. Especially this year, when we’re celebrating our great nation’s 250th birthday, I encourage everyone to visit and learn about Harford’s historic places and spread the word through our social media campaign.”
Residents are encouraged to participate in the #HarfordLovesHistoricPreservation social media campaign by visiting local historic sites, taking photos with a special sign available on the county website, and sharing these images online using the designated hashtag. Participants should include information about why each site is meaningful. Photos can also be submitted directly to Harford County government for posting on official social media pages.
Instructions for joining include downloading a sign from the county website, snapping photos at various landmarks, sharing them on personal social media accounts with relevant details, and sending copies by email for broader community engagement. More information about participating locations and preservation efforts can be found at https://www.harfordcountymd.gov/3386/Harford-Loves-Historic-Preservation.
The effort seeks not only to promote awareness during May but also encourages ongoing interest in preserving local history. Further resources on protecting historic places are available at https://www.harfordcountymd.gov/2029/Historic-Preservation.
