Harford County announced on May 21 that residents and visitors can participate in the Harford Streams Summer Adventure, a program running from Memorial Day through Labor Day that encourages people to explore local streams, take selfies, and win prizes.
The initiative aims to raise awareness about the county’s natural resources by inviting participants of all ages, including pets, to visit scenic waterways. The program is designed to promote outdoor activity while fostering appreciation for Harford County’s parks and streams.
Participants do not need to register. They can select locations from a list of Harford stream sites available on the county website or choose up to five personal favorites. By submitting selfies from seven different locations using the online app, individuals earn a free Harford Streams Summer Adventure T-shirt; pets receive a dog bandanna. Visiting additional locations increases chances for larger prizes: those who visit 11 sites may win either a canoe trip for eight at Eden Mill Nature Center or a family membership at Steppingstone Farm Museum; visiting 15 locations qualifies participants for either a three-night mini cabin rental at Susquehanna State Park or a kayak trip for twelve at Anita C. Leight Estuary Center.
County Executive Bob Cassilly said, “Summer is the perfect time to reconnect with nature and visit our wonderful parks and waterways. These outdoor spaces make Harford County special, and we must protect them for future generations.”
A full list of eligible stream sites along with an interactive map is available on the county website. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences on social media using #HarfordStreams and follow updates on Facebook at Harford Streams.
The program highlights community engagement with local natural resources while offering incentives for exploration throughout the summer.
