Congressman Andy Harris has announced that $3.2 million in federal funding will be allocated to the North East River Dredging Project in Cecil County, Maryland. The funds come from the Energy & Water Development appropriations bill and are designated for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Baltimore District.
The project aims to remove sediment buildup in the North East River, which has limited navigation and posed safety issues for both commercial and recreational vessels. By addressing these challenges, the dredging is expected to restore navigability and support ongoing maritime activity and economic interests in the area.
“For years, sediment buildup has made it harder and less safe to navigate the North East River. I’m proud to have secured this dredging funding for Cecil County, allowing sediment removal to move forward and restore safe access for boaters, businesses, and the communities that depend on this waterway,” said Congressman Harris.
Andy Harris represents Maryland’s 1st district in Congress, a position he has held since 2011 after succeeding Frank Kratovil. He previously served in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature between 1999 and 2011. Harris was born in New York City in 1957 and currently resides in Cambridge. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977.
