Harford County Executive Bob Cassilly announced on April 1 the appointment of Jonathan T. Streett to the Harford County Board of Education, following the resignation of Mark Korn due to health reasons.
Streett will serve the remainder of Korn’s term, which runs until 2028, pending confirmation by the Harford County Council. The appointment is intended to maintain continuity and leadership on the board during a period of transition.
Cassilly thanked Korn for his service, saying, “Mark Korn has served our community with dedication and integrity, and we thank him for his commitment to the students and families of Harford County. We wish him strength and good health in the days ahead.”
The county executive expressed confidence in Streett’s qualifications: “Jon Streett brings a lifetime of experience, leadership, and commitment to Harford County,” Cassilly said. “As an 11th-generation resident, a graduate of Bel Air High School, and a parent of three children who attended Harford County Public Schools, Jon understands firsthand the importance of strong public education. His professional background managing large-scale operations, negotiating complex agreements, and leading teams across the globe will bring valuable perspective to the Board of Education.”
Streett is a graduate of Bel Air High School (Class of 1981) with a Bachelor’s degree from Maine Maritime Academy. He holds a U.S. Coast Guard Master Mariner license with unlimited tonnage and has worked in senior roles at Wallenius Wilhelmsen Ocean Operations for nearly thirty years. In addition to his career experience overseeing major operational initiatives internationally, he has served on local boards such as Liriodendron Foundation since 1996 and participated in youth mentorship through Boy Scouts.
“I am honored by the opportunity to serve the students, families, and educators of Harford County,” Streett said. “Public education is the foundation of our community, and I look forward to working collaboratively to ensure our schools continue to provide high-quality opportunities for every student.”
Streett’s appointment awaits confirmation by members of the county council.
