Congressman Andy Harris announced on April 6 that his office will host its first Service Academy Information Night of the year, an in-person event aimed at high school students interested in applying to the nation’s military academies. The event is scheduled for Thursday, April 16 at Chesapeake College in Wye Mills, Maryland.
The session is designed to inform students and their families about the application and nomination process for five U.S. Service Academies: the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Attendees will have a chance to ask questions and hear from academy representatives.
“This is an opportunity for high school students in Maryland’s First District to learn about pursuing an appointment to a U.S. Service Academy and a future in military service. These institutions play a critical role in developing our nation’s future military leaders, and students and families should attend this session to learn how to apply and navigate the nomination process,” Congressman Harris said.
Harris has represented Maryland’s 1st district since replacing Frank Kratovil in 2011 according to public records. He previously served on the Maryland Senate from 1999 until joining Congress according to official congressional biography. Born in New York City in 1957, Harris currently resides in Cambridge as reported by Congress.gov.
Harris earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1977 according to university records.
